About

Hello!

Shoestring Travel Club founder Adam wearing a Shoestring merch hat in front of Dublin's Bolands Mills on a short weekend trip

Adam (me)

I'm Adam, and I founded and run this club.

I like going away on trips, a lot. But I always hated the fact that trips away seemed to be planned in months in advance and cost tonnes too. Whenever I kept finding flights for £37, I always wondered 'surely for that price, it's worth taking?'

So I started taking them, and it is worth it! No overplanning, no overspending, just book the thing and go have a wander around somewhere new.

That in essence is the idea behind the Shoestring Travel Club. Whenever I find a trip that's so good you think 'why wouldn't I take that', I share it!

I also share my thoughts on the places I've been, good and bad, and share my own travel tips too. So hopefully, all of that combines to inspire you to start booking similar sorts of trips and just go somewhere else!

I Think You (Almost) Can't Lose

The way I see it, it's all about expectations.

If you go and spend £1000 on a fancy 7 day trip, it can only really ever live up to your expectations if you think 'Well of course it was class. I paid a grand for it so it better have been!'

But, if you go somewhere for about £100 for flights & accom, you almost can't lose. As long as you're safe and well, a trip for that money is worth it even if you just wander about somewhere new for a few days, have a few drinks and come home.

Better still, the smaller trips don't replace any big ones you've got planned. Still take your main holidays each year sure, but with those free weekends or spare days of annual leave, why not just hop on a flight and go somewhere else for a few days?

FAQ's

What do club members
get?

Members see everything I find and share: Trips (flights and accom) I think could be worth taking, maps with pins of places I've found or been myself and my thoughts on them (good and bad) and tips / general travel chat that I think could be useful

How often do new things
get posted?

Honestly? Only when I find or write something that's genuinely worth sharing. You won't get bombarded with tonnes of generic shite, it's all about genuine finds that I'd take myself, and thoughts I've genuinely had and want to share

Where do you look for
trips from?

Currently, I look for trips from the UK and Ireland. No matter if you live in London, Edinburgh, Belfast or Cork, I keep an eye out for trips that depart from somewhere on the same landmass you live on.

Where do you look at for
destinations and places to visit?

Most places I either go or look at going to are ones that can feasibly be visited on a Shoestring-style trip (i.e. few days, doesn't need a big plan, great prices). This therefore tends to mean the places are most often in and around Europe

Who is the club

for?

The club is for anyone who's ever sat at home thinking 'I wish I was just somewhere else'. If you want to start going on trips for a few days rather than sitting at home on your days off (and probably spend a similar amount as a night out back home), then this is for you!

Who is the club probably

not for?

Anyone who's looking for long, massively planned and / or expensive trips. If you're looking for a place to find 3 month backpacking trips round Asia or 14 days of £2000 all-inclusive trips, then I hope you have a great time, but this isn't the place to find that

After All, Why Not?

That's the reason I founded the club, and the same reason to join if you want to.

Few days off? You'd probably spend a fair whack on activities or a night out back home anyway. So why not find a great deal and hop away for a few days?

It feels like everyone today thinks travel has to be expensive and / or over-planned, or that people know £37 flights exist but never seem to take them.

Want to start? This is the place to help you do it!

It would be great to have you as a member :)
